설명

From the Movies

One of the most annoying critters in the galaxy, Salacious B. Crumb was the favored jester in the court of Jabba the Hutt. The beak-nosed pot-bellied miscreant had a habit of breaking into a nerve-wracking cackle whenever the mood struck his flighty little brain. The creature had a knack for mimicry, and would pester many by constantly repeating what was said to him.

Crumb had an affinity for tormenting Jabba's other employees, most notably the Hutt's interpreters. When C-3PO became Jabba's property, Salacious antagonized the golden protocol droid mercilessly. As Luke Skywalker freed his allies, Crumb physically attacked Threepio, ripping the droid's eye from its socket. Fortunately, R2-D2 arrived and used his electric prod to shock the little beast. An angry Crumb retreated, and died moments later when the sail barge exploded.

From the Expanded Universe

A Kowakian monkey-lizard, Salacious was little more than vermin infesting the innards of Kwenn Space Station. Having long eluded the Mantilorrian rat catchers employed by the station, Crumb made good his escape by stowing aboard Jabba the Hutt's visiting vessel.

When discovered by Jabba, the meddling little lizard was almost eaten by the Hutt (it served Crumb right, since he hid in Jabba's feeding bowl). Jabba tasked his two competing henchmen to capture the elusive stowaway. Bidlo Kwerve and Bib Fortuna ended up covered in green ooze in their bid to catch Salacious, and the ridiculous sight produced a massive belly-laugh in the Hutt.

The Kowakian could stay, Jabba decreed, but only if the goofy being could make the Hutt laugh once a day.

Behind the Scenes

Salacious B. Crumb was an intricately detailed puppet controlled by Tim Rose, the same puppeteer who worked Admiral Ackbar. To allow Rose access to work Crumb, a hole was cut into Jabba's throne to accommodate the puppeteer.

Crumb was originally intended to be a background character, but Rose's antics quickly made him a favorite on the set. This earned Crumb a number of close-ups as well as a gradually expanded role.
